This course is intended to prepare students for the IBT (Internet-Based TOEFL) test. The IBT version of the TOEFL test has four sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing. It is based on the most up-to date academic information.
This course is divided into four sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing.
The Reading section consists of the studies of reading texts and students are asked to analyze them for main ideas, details, inferences, sentence restatements, sentence insertion, vocabulary, function, and overall ideas.
The Listening section consists of the studies of academic lectures and discussions and campus conversations.
The Speaking section consists of two groups of tasks; integrated and independent tasks. In the independent tasks part, students are asked to speak about aspects of everyday life.In the integrated tasks part, students read a passage an annuncement or an academic text and listen to a lecture or a student discussion then speak about how the ideas in the two are related.
The Writing section consists of two tasks; integrated and independent tasks. In the independent tasks part, students are asked to write personal essays. In the integrated tasks part, students are asked to read and listen to some academic information then write about how the ideas are related.

The objectives of the course are as follows:
- To expand their academic and daily vocabulary by using context to figure out meaning and define terms.
- To improve their reading skills through a variety of strategies such as previewing, predicting, skimming, scanning, recognizing main ideas, analyzing style and tone, separating fact from opinion, understanding point of view and figurative language, increasing reading speed
- To improve their listening skills through certain strategies such as identifying signals, finding the main idea, and note taking
- To develop their writing skills by using a formal style, summarizing, paraphrasing, writing essays, using appropriate quoting and citing conventions.
- To improve their speaking skills through numerous independent & integrated speaking tasks.

3. Students can understand lectures and conversations using listening strategies including note taking skills
4. Students can write essays and make formal statements
5. Students can communicate orally in daily and academic contexts.
