Course Description
This course examines topics such as international competitiveness, economic growth, and sustainable development goals, analyzing how the competitiveness levels of countries and industries are assessed through various economic indicators and strategies. Students will learn to analyze the effects of economic policies on competitiveness by understanding the dynamics of global competition, the impact of foreign trade, quality competition, and industrial development processes.

Course Objectives
1. Gaining knowledge about various indicators that measure international competitiveness.
2. Acquiring the ability to evaluate the impact of sustainable development goals and industrial strategies on competitiveness.
Course Outcomes
1. Students will be able to analyze the competitiveness levels of different countries and sectors and develop economic growth strategies.
2. Students will be able to discuss the integration of sustainable development goals with economic competitiveness and industrial policies and assess the feasibility of these goals.
Tentative Course Plan
Week 1: Introduction: Does globalization reduce the importance of country-specific factors?
Week 2: Definitions of international competitiveness / Elements and determinants of international competitiveness
Week 3: The Porter approach / Competitive development stages of countries
Week 4: Global Competitiveness Report / Methods for measuring international competitiveness
Week 5: Forms of competition in industries / Intra-industry trade
Week 6: Revealed external trade performance indices / Economic and social development
Week 7: Preparation – Special expertise commission reports, purpose, structure, and fundamentals
Week 8: Balance analyses in the economy and practical examples
Week 9: Labor market and unemployment
Week 10: Key macroeconomic indicators of the Turkish economy / Basic sectoral structure of the Turkish economy (industry, agriculture, services)
Week 11: Investment incentives
Week 12: Efforts to improve the investment and business environment (YOİKK mechanism, operation)
