Course Description
The process will examine the legacy inherited from the Ottoman Empire, the founding years of the Republic, the adoption of a state-led approach, the acceleration of social transformation, and the foundations of planned development. The pre-1980 period will be evaluated in terms of the mixed economy model, planned development, development plans, import substitution policies, and the January 24 decisions. Post-1980, the externally-oriented growth model, recent economic crises, globalization, and the European Union (EU) process will be analyzed in terms of their economic and social effects.

Course Objectives
This course aims to examine the "Turkish Economy" within its historical development process.
Course Outcomes
1. Students will be able to analyze the historical development and economic transformation of the Turkish economy.
2. Students will be able to discuss and evaluate the impacts of policies applied during different periods of the Turkish economy.

1st Week: The Economic Legacy of the Ottoman Empire to the Republic
2nd Week: Economic Developments in the First Decade of the Republic
3rd Week: Economic Developments during the State-Led Industrialization Period
4th Week: The Turkish Economy during and after the Second World War
5th Week: The Turkish Economy in the 1950-1960 Period, The Turkish Economy in the 1960-1978 Period
6th Week: The Turkish Economy in the 1960-1978 Period
7th Week: The 1978-1979 Crisis in the Turkish Economy and the January 24, 1980 Stability Decisions
8th Week: The Turkish Economy in the 1990s and the April 5, 1994 Decisions
9th Week: The Turkish Economy in the 2000s; 2000 and 2001 Economic Programs
