Within the scope of SUI 401 Graduation Project course, students of the Department of International Relations prepare and present their undergraduate graduation theses.

The main purpose of the course is to provide students with advanced knowledge and experience in writing academic articles. The course aims to inform students about the basic characteristics of a good academic text and to help students write systematic and original articles in the light of the information provided. Students will identify study topics related to the conceptual/theoretical discussions and practical agenda of the International Relations discipline, determine research questions within the framework of the subject, and write academic articles in accordance with the citation and quotation rules by conducting research on their subjects from qualified Turkish and English sources.

Week 1: Introduction, introduction of the content, purpose and expectations of the course, Discussion of possible topics for students' graduation projects
Week 2: Writing as a process, Basic concepts, methods, rules and criteria in academic essays
Week 3: How to analyze an article? [Determination of the topic, main idea (thesis/argument), research question, method and structure in articles with sample texts], Assignment 1: Article analysis (15% ) Students will come to the next class having prepared the analysis of the article sent to them by e-mail before the class.
Week 4: Evaluation of the assigned article, going over the basic concepts, How to do a literature review?
Week 5: 2. Homework: During this week, students will (1) determine their article topics, (2) determine the questions they will answer in their articles, (3) scan Turkish and English books, academic journals, newspaper news and analyses, library and internet resources related to their topics and prepare their literature review assignments. The assignment consists of two parts. The first part should include topic identification and research questions, and the second part should include the literature review. Students are required to list their sources in accordance with the rules specified in the course. Homework must be printed out and submitted during class time the following week.
Week 6: PLAGIARISM/Academic plagiarism/Avoiding plagiarism *Direct and indirect citation rules
Week 7: Feedback on topic, research questions and sources *Students begin planning the academic paper they will write: Creating the article structure/outline
Week 8: Students are expected to come to class having written the introduction and the first parts of the body of their papers (historical background or conceptual framework). Initial feedback will be given on these drafts.
Week 9: Students are expected to come to class having developed the body of their papers. Second feedback will be given on these drafts.
Week 10: Article writing process & feedback, Evaluating the texts written by students taking the course separately
Week 11: Points to consider in academic presentations *Preparing a Powerpoint presentation, Article writing process and feedback
Week 12: Article writing process (development and conclusion sections) and feedback *Students preparing their jury presentations for the following week
