The course is elective for students of the Department of Political Science and International Relations. Students from other departments can take it as an elective course.
Course Description
This course is an introductory-level course for those who wish to understand the issue of "terrorism and political violence," which falls within the scope of International Relations in particular, and other disciplines in general. Students will learn about the history, definitions, causes, types, ecosystem, and role of terrorism in both national and international levels at the undergraduate level. They will also gain insight into how terrorism interacts with political movements, media, law, ideology, globalization, and technological development, and how it has evolved over the years.

Week 1: The definition of terrorism, extremism, radicalism, definitions, descriptions, and debates on classification.
Week 2: Understanding terrorist targets.
Week 3: The history of modern terrorism.
Week 4: The causes to modern terrorism.
Week 5: Terrorism and the media.
Week 6: Oppositional terrorism.
Week 7: International order and international terrorism.
Week 8: Religious driven terrorism/Suicide bombings/Lone wolves/Debates on new terrorism.
Week 9: Counterterrorism methods.
Week 10: Approaches to counterterrorism: From individual approaches to inclusive approaches.
Week 11: History of Terrorism in Turkey
Week 12: History of Terrorism in Turkey -PKK
