The course is an elective course for the students of the Department of Political Science and International Relations and also of other departments.
After the second half of the twentieth century, identity politics has become one of the main areas of political practice and theory construction. The aim of this course is to provide a discussion and understanding of identity-related concepts within the traditional state-based theories and the current individual-oriented approaches, including the theories of nationalism, multiculturalism, feminism and (post-)structuralism.

The course aims to examine the relationship between politics and identities (both individual and social). In particular, the course will examine the impact of social identities on modern politics. When and how does a social identity become a (political) movement? What distinguishes a political movement from a social movement? Another aim of this course is to compare individual identity with social identity.
1. Students will be more understanding of different identities.
2. Students will learn that identity politics issues are not unique to Turkey but are global.
